OKLCH vs HSL

Both rows below show colors at "the same lightness" across different hues. Look at which row appears more visually even:

HSL at lightness 50%

Notice how colors with the same HSL lightness can still appear uneven in brightness across hues. HSL uses a single lightness number across all hues, but that number doesn't correspond to how humans actually perceive brightness.

OKLCH at lightness 60%

In OKLCH, when two colors share the same lightness value, they genuinely appear equally bright to the human eye. This makes building harmonious palettes much more intuitive.
